How Do Invisalign Aligners Work?
Invisalign treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation with our Invisalign consultant who will want to know your expectations for the process. Based on the results you would like, and our experience and knowledge, we can then create a comprehensive Invisalign plan to suit your needs.
After chatting with you, a digital scan of your smile is taken so that we can make digital representations of how your smile looks now. Using this scan information we can also show you how your teeth will look after your treatment. With our recommendations and feedback from you, we can make any final adjustments before making a comprehensive Invisalign treatment plan.
Invisalign Preparation
To prepare for your treatment, we usually don't need to extract any teeth and instead we can complete polishing between them to allow for movement into the right position.
We then have your first set of thin and comfortable aligners made, which you will wear for between 20 and 22 hours every day for two weeks before coming in to receive your next set of aligners. This will happen every two weeks until the end of treatment. We will also continue to check progress regularly so any tweaks that need to be made can be put in place, keeping you on track to achieve the desired results.
Invisalign Treatment Time
During your use of the aligners your teeth will be moving very gently into position. This process can take between 3-24 months depending on how severe your dental problems are to begin with, and depending on whether you have been able to use the aligners for the right amount of time needed, every day for the straightening to occur.
At the end of treatment we complete detail work where we ensure your smile is going to be as you expected it to be. We will then speak to you about retainers you will need to keep your teeth straight. Removable retainers are available but we encourage patients to opt for permanent retainers which are more effective at keeping the teeth in position.
