What Should I Expect From A Dental Check-up?
Our team will let you know how often you need to visit the dentist, but more often than not, every six months is advised unless you have special dental needs.
Our check-ups provide you with a comprehensive check of the gums, oral soft tissues, teeth and also beneath the gum line, including the roots of the teeth and your jawbone. During your check-up we will also carry out an oral cancer check, and we will check-in with any general health issues or new medication that could be affecting your dental health. We also ask you speak to us about any oral health concerns you may have, as well as any improvements you would like to make to your smile, or any dental treatments you might be interested in
What Does Filling Treatment Involve?
We will use filling treatment for a tooth that has breakage or decay and requires filling material to strengthen it and to protect the rest of the natural tooth. Most commonly we use silver fillings (amalgam) but we also offer white fillings as a cosmetic alternative for those who prefer to keep the tooth looking as natural as possible.
What Are White Fillings?
White fillings are made from tooth-coloured material which we use to repair decayed or broken teeth without changing the overall aesthetics of your smile.
The material we use naturally sticks to the tooth so we don't have to take away much natural tooth material in order to place this kind of filling. For this reason, we consider white fillings to be a healthy option for tooth restoration in comparison to silver fillings, especially when it comes to the overall look of the smile.
White fillings enable the tooth to remain intact and with its natural shape, whilst still blending in visually to the surrounding teeth.
What Happens When Tooth Extraction Is Necessary?
Our team works very hard to help patients avoid tooth loss and we have a wide variety of treatments, advice and product recommendations to help you avoid tooth extraction. However, it is something that is needed sometimes if the tooth is so damaged, diseased or decayed it is beyond repair.
If you do have a tooth removed, we have many restorative treatments to help you smile and eat again with confidence.
Do You Carry Out Oral Cancer Checks?
Oral cancer checks are a standard part of our check-up process and our dentists are trained to notice any signs and symptoms that could suggest cancer is present. The sooner oral cancer is spotted and diagnosed, the better the chances of effective treatment.
Are Custom-Fit Mouthguards Something You Offer?
Here at Ascot Dental Practice we offer custom mouth guards as the most effective way to protect your teeth and smile against trauma during sports. We also offer mouth guards that can prevent the damage caused by teeth grinding when you sleep. The high-quality mouth guards we offer are entirely custom made for maximum effectiveness, comfort and protection.
